Imagine going through pregnancy without prenatal care… Or having to work four jobs just to afford one visit to the doctors office…
Imagine a pregnant woman traveling 50km by foot every time she needs to visit the hospital...
This is what Shehnaza Bibi and her sisters would have to deal with. They were forced to deal with their pregnancies at home, delivering their babies without any medical assistance.
A visit to the doctors office for us is starkly different for individuals in Pakistan who are unable to afford or access healthcare. Instead, they are left untreated.
Not having access to health care services is the reality for over 50% of Pakistan. 100 million people do not have access to basic primary healthcare.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The most beloved of people to Allah is the one who brings the most benefit to the people, and the most beloved of deeds to Allah is making a Muslim happy, or relieving him of hardship, or paying off his debt, or warding off his hunger from him.” (Sahih)
When Shehnazah Bibi herself became pregnant, she reached out to Indus Hospital and received the care she needed to make her pregnancy comfortable.
Indus Hospital and Health Network has helped and benefited thousands of patients like Shenazah and her sisters. Thousands more are living without access to healthcare. We cannot stand idly by when our brothers and sisters need us. You can benefit them. You can make a person happy.

The Problem.
For adequate population coverage, Pakistan needs two doctors for every 1,000 people. Yet for every 1,764 people, there is only one doctor.
Think about that. Thousands of people with medical issues from a basic cold, to life threatening cancer, are unable to receive the medical care and attention that they need to recover. They are left to live with their condition, not knowing the causes of their symptoms, not knowing if they will live to see tomorrow.
All because they are unable to reach primary health care services due to cost, location, or circumstance.

How many lives have been lost just because they were unable to visit a Primary healthcare center? How many more will suffer?
When we have even the slightest concern, we call our doctor on the spot to book an appointment. You may even get an appointment on the same day. This is a luxury we take for granted, and a luxury that many do not have.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever alleviates the hardship of someone in distress, Allah will alleviate his hardship on the Day of Resurrection” [Sahih Bukhari]

The Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) provides quality healthcare absolutely free of cost to millions of deserving patients since 2007 through our countrywide network of hospitals in Pakistan.
The Indus Hospital and Health Network came into being with the purpose to improve the healthcare environment of Pakistan. Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, the founder of The Indus Hospital, worked tirelessly in government-run hospitals of Pakistan and experienced the appalling situation of the helpless patients.
This inspired him to envision a multi-disciplinary tertiary care hospital that would sustain the philosophy of ‘quality care free-of-cost’. Starting with one hospital in Karachi, IHN has public health networks across 52 districts of Pakistan with:

Kashmira
Kashmira is a mother of five. She had been dealing with a sore throat and breathing issues for a while. Initially, she had been using home remedies for her condition, waiting for the disease to die on its own. Finally, when her condition worsened, she came to Indus Hospital, on a bike, to seek medical advice. She was diagnosed with a throat infection and since then, has been going to the Indus Hospital for care.
Sakeena Bibi
Sakeena Bibi would often fall sick without apparent cause. She would complain of stomach and body pains and headaches. She tried taking general medicines from the city, brought to her by her son, but nothing worked. Sakeena was lucky enough that a group of community health workers visited her house for general awareness about hepatitis C & B. They also conducted tests on potential patients, Sakeena being one of them. From there, she was referred to Indus Hospital in Bhong, where she received treatment. While a 3-month treatment for her condition would usually cost PKR 500,000, which she would not have been able to afford, Indus Hospital treated her free of cost.
Shehnaz Bibi
Before knowing about Indus Hospital, Shehnaz Bibi and her sisters would have to travel 50km to Sadaqabad’s hospital if they needed treatment. Because of the distance, Shehnaz delivered her babies at home. When she visited Indus Hospital for a normal flu, Shehnaz decided that she would bring her sisters to deliver their babies there, as it was only 5km away. Shehnaz says about Indus Hospital, “I didn’t want my sisters to deliver at home because it’s not safe. The local midwives don’t know what precautions to take. Indus is very convenient for all of us. Also, another major reason for choosing Indus is that they provide free vaccinations for all children, which is honestly a blessing for us.”

Once the recipient of Zakat is identified, their MR number is marked to signify that the patient’s treatment should be supported from Zakat account. The patient is requested to sign a declaration granting the Indus Hospital permission to collect Zakat on their behalf and to use that Zakat to sponsor the treatment of his/her and/or other patients or hospital requirements. Once the patient is discharged, hospital generates an internal bill and sends it to the Zakat Committee for settlement.
